Research projects developed in collaboration with industries represent 90% of departmental funds and are one of DEIB main activities. Of these, 42% is entirely financed by partner companies, while the remaining 58% is co-financed by public bodies, in particular by the European Union.

With this in mind, DEIB fosters long-term strategic alliances with its industrial partners through the sharing of research and development activities, the participation in national and international research and innovation programs, the production of patents and the organization of specialized training activities.

The Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria also has over 50 research laboratories able to offer industries highly specialized services, including training courses on specific equipment, product certifications, development of prototypes, specific measurements and production of technology demonstrators. To these are added more than 20 interdepartmental laboratories dedicated to advanced interdisciplinary research.

Relations with Society and the Industry World

The Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria has always been characterized by a profound vocation to cooperate with the industry world and with society as a whole, to bring academic research closer to the needs of the real world. The professors and researchers of the Department are constantly engaged in long-term activities and projects that have an immediate impact on companies.

With 6 research areas, over 200 professors and researchers and nearly 1,000 people involved, DEIB is also one of the largest and most important European research and technology transfer centers operating in the information and communication technologies sector.

To fulfill its social role, DEIB collaborates with the most important national and international companies by raising funds for research, promoting partnerships and projects, disseminating the results of its research as much as possible, promoting intellectual property and the culture of patents.

Alumni: An Irreplaceable Resource

Alumni represent a very precious and irreplaceable resource for the Department and are the backbone of the DEIB Community project.

As Point of contact between university and industry, on the one hand they enrich companies with the knowledge and skills acquired during the years dedicated to study and research; on the other they represent the requests and orientations of companies at the Department, favoring collaborative relationships that are advantageous for the parties involved and for society as a whole.

Thanks to its high rate of internationality, the DEIB alumni network extends worldwide. In 2020 alone, more than 11% of the Department's graduates were not Italian. Over 50% of these came from Asia, 27% from the rest of Europe, 10% from Africa, 10% from South America and less than 1% from North America.
