A team of researchers coordinated by Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi and Prof. Giulio Panzani of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano is collaborating with Energica Motor Company, a Modena-based company leader in the sector of high-performance electric motorcycles and system integration for electric vehicles, for an innovative "robo-rider" project for motorcycles, in order to develop assisted driving technology also on two-wheeled vehicles.

As part of the #StayChargedEDU training programme, Energica supports young talents by assisting them in the implementation of important school and university projects. The collaboration with the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano is the last of many others collaborations with schools and universities.

To date, the project has undergone its first phase: the sensors have been installed on the vehicle – an Eva Ribelle RS, which the company has given to the Politecnico – with suspension potentiometers, IMU and GPS RTK for positioning. An analog and CAN channel acquisition card has also been designed to convert them into an Ethernet data stream.

In the coming months, researchers from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering will take the vehicle “on the road” to collect the first important data for carrying out the project.
